Cashier's cheque scam targetting dance studios / dance teachers
This scam that targets professional dance teachers is run by criminals in West Africa. It is a variation of a similar scam involving weddings photographers, violin teachers and hotels. The criminal poses as someone looking for dance lessons for a groups. He contacts a professional dance teacher to book a set of group lessons. Then he/she sends a large cashier's check as payment. The check is larger than the amount of thelessons.
The teacher is asked to cash the check and wire the extra amount to a third party, for example a travel agent supposedly the group. The check is fake and the victim wires several thousand dollars of his own money to the criminals if he falls for this scam.
